QUOTES/REVIEWS

Bio:

Wayne Stoute is from Trinidad, André and Ross Whiteman are from Grenada. All three are familiar with the Jab Jab, a devilish carnival character of the Caribbean islands that is more mischievous than evil. Like many other masqueraders at carnival time, they smear themselves with black oil, and don horns to play at being the “diable” (French for devil).
This street jester’s mock seriousness and daring antics have always thrilled the members of the group. After they emigrated to New York City from their respective islands, they were inspired to use the name Jab Jab for their new band.
This guitar, bass and drum playing outfit surrounds itself with horns, keyboards, percussion and background vocalists. Their musical menu offers mostly the styles of the English Caribbean…soca and a little reggae, but includes influences from across the afro sound spectrum.
Avid fans of music and culture, the members of Jab Jab have involved themselves in a number of musical situations over the years. Jointly and individually they have accompanied: French - Canadian singers, R & B crooners, Elvis and James Brown impersonators, Haitian Pop singer Emeline Michel and South – African singer Lorraine Klaasen. These three musicians have worked with almost every World Music artiste on the Montreal scene. In addition to this, they have also recorded sound tracks for television as well as films like "Taxi to L.A"
and "Love and Human Remains".
Their CD "Jump Up And Jam" is rich in color and rhythm, mixing the styles of Reggae, Compas, Zouk and Soukouss in an energetic base of Soca. This CD was nominated for an ADISQ award in the World Beat category in 1996.
